St Paul Lutheran Church - Annunciation Service
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clarence Center, NY will rejoice to observe the Annunciation of Our Lord, the day when the angel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and bear the Son of God. For the Church, this is no minor event. It is the celebration of the incarnation itself: the eternal Son of God taking on human flesh in the womb of Mary for our salvation. As a confessional Lutheran Church in Clarence, NY, St. Paul gives thanks that Jesus Christ is true God and true man from the very moment of His conception. We will be celebrating the Annunciation in 3 parts and observing them on Wednesday 3/18, Sunday 3/22 and Wednesday 3/25. Let us consider the upcoming Scripture readings as we prepare our hearts for these services.
Isaiah 7:10–14 declares, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Immanuel means “God with us.” The child in Mary’s womb is not merely a messenger from God, nor merely an example of holiness. He is God Himself in human flesh. At St. Paul Lutheran Church, we confess with joy that the promised Son of Isaiah is the same Lord Jesus Christ who came to dwell among us and redeem us. This is the heart of the Christian faith and the comfort of sinners.
Hebrews 10:4–10 teaches why this matters. The sacrifices of the Old Testament could not finally take away sins. Therefore the Son says, “A body have you prepared for me.” Our salvation required the obedient incarnate Son, who came to do the Father’s will and offer Himself for us. The body conceived in the womb of Mary is the same body given into death on the cross and raised again in victory. Christ saves us not by appearance only, but as true man and true God, the one Mediator for all people.
Luke 1:26–38 shows us the gift of faith. Mary does not manufacture belief from within herself. She receives the Lord’s Word through Gabriel, and by grace she believes it: “Let it be to me according to your word.” So it is with us. Faith is not our accomplishment. It is the gift of God, created by His Word and Spirit. At St. Paul Lutheran Church, a confessional congregation serving Clarence Center, Amherst, Williamsville, Lancaster, and the Buffalo area, this same Gospel is preached so that sinners may hear, believe, and be comforted in Christ.
This is why Life Sunday on March 22, 2026 is so fitting. Because the Son of God took on flesh in the womb, we gladly confess the dignity of every human life, including our pre-born neighbors. Our Lord sanctified life in the womb by entering it Himself. Therefore a pro-life church does not speak only from moral concern, but from Christological truth. Humanity has been exalted by the incarnation. In Jesus, human nature is honored, redeemed, and destined for glory. We will be celebrating the Annunciation in 3 parts and observing them on Wednesday 3/18, Sunday 3/22 and Wednesday 3/25.
This “Life Week” centered around the Annunciation of our Lord on March 25, we proclaim that every human life is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) because God said ‘yes’ to sending His Son into our world through a virgin’s womb. Mary said ‘yes’ in humble faith. Jesus said ‘yes’ in perfect obedience—offering His prepared body to redeem us all. God, through Isaiah’s promise (chapter 7), the annunciation recorded by Luke (chapter 2), and the blessed fulfillment we read of in Hebrews (chapter 10), these three ‘yeses’ call us to say ‘yes’ to life: receiving the vulnerable, protecting the unborn, and offering Christ’s forgiving ‘yes’ to every repentant heart burdened by past decisions.
God Said Yes to life in the womb. Mary Said Yes in faith. Jesus Said Yes unto death and resurrection—for us and for every fearfully and wonderfully made child.
As pro-life LCMS Christians, we say ‘yes’ too: defending the unborn, serving mothers and families, and proclaiming forgiveness to all who grieve. The Promise is kept; the King has come; the body is offered. Thanks be to God! Join the saints and sinners at St Paul Lutheran Church near Buffalo NY to celebrate the gift of life and the gift of the Life that redeemed all of mankind, our Lord and Savior Jesus of Nazareth. As Lutherans for life we must answer the call to be a voice for the voiceless and support those who face hard decisions in matters of life and death.
