Service of Evening Prayer and Children’s Choir Festival
The public is warmly invited to attend a Service of Evening Prayer on Friday, October 2, at 5:30 PM at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Tonawanda. This service will culminate a day of music, fellowship, and rehearsal as nearly 100 students from Holy Ghost Lutheran School in Wheatfield, St. John Lutheran School in Tonawanda, and Trinity Lutheran School in West Seneca gather for a special Children’s Choir Festival. It will be a beautiful opportunity to hear young voices lifted in song and to give thanks for Lutheran schools, faithful teachers, church musicians, families, and congregations that continue to nurture children in the faith.
Music has always had an important place in the life of the Church. Through hymns, psalms, canticles, and liturgical song, Christians learn to confess the faith, pray the Scriptures, and rejoice in the mercy of Jesus Christ. A children’s choir festival is more than a musical event. It is a reminder that the Church hands down the faith from one generation to the next, teaching children to sing what is true, beautiful, and centered in Christ.
A Rich Liturgical Life in Western New York
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clarence Center, NY gives thanks for the rich liturgical life shared among Lutheran congregations and schools throughout Western New York. Evening Prayer is one of the treasured services of the Church, gathering God’s people around Scripture, prayer, song, and thanksgiving at the close of the day. It is a fitting conclusion to a day shaped by music, rehearsal, fellowship, and Christian encouragement.
For families in Clarence, East Amherst, Williamsville, Tonawanda, Wheatfield, West Seneca, and the greater Buffalo area, events like this show the beauty of Lutheran worship and education. Children learn not only by hearing the faith explained, but also by participating in the worshiping life of the Church. They learn the sound of prayer, the language of Scripture, the comfort of the Gospel, and the joy of singing together as the people of God.
Supporting Children and Youth in the Faith
St. Paul Lutheran Church is also glad to encourage children and youth in the life of the congregation through Sunday School and youth Bible study. These opportunities help young people grow in the Christian faith, ask questions, learn the Scriptures, and understand the teaching of the Lutheran Church. In a world filled with distraction and confusion, children and students need the steady gifts of God’s Word, prayer, catechesis, and faithful Christian community.
Sunday School and youth Bible study are not merely programs on a church calendar. They are part of the Church’s calling to teach the faith, support parents, and help children grow as baptized Christians. At St. Paul, we want young people to know that they belong in the Church, that their questions matter, and that Jesus Christ is their Savior.
