Celebrating 170 Years of God’s Faithfulness at St. Paul
On July 25, 2026, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clarence Center, NY gathered for a great old-fashioned celebration of 170 years of God’s faithfulness. It was an amazing day filled with gratitude, joy, good food, music, history, and fellowship with friends new and old. We give thanks to the Lord for all who came together to celebrate this milestone in the life of our congregation and the wider Wolcottsburg community. For 170 years, St. Paul has been a place where God’s Word has been heard, Christ’s mercy has been proclaimed, and families have gathered in faith across generations. Anniversaries like this are not merely about remembering dates on a timeline. They are opportunities to look back with thanksgiving, to see how the Lord has preserved His Church, and to rejoice that the same Gospel continues to comfort, forgive, and strengthen His people today.
A Joyful Old-Fashioned Celebration
The anniversary celebration had the warmth of a true community gathering. There was pork and fixings, cakes, games, music, hay rides, a bonfire, and time to visit with good friends from the congregation and community. These simple pleasures helped make the day memorable, welcoming, and full of the kind of fellowship that strengthens life together in the church. We are especially thankful for the old-time music provided by Finnegans Punch. Their music added joy and energy to the day, giving the celebration a festive and familiar sound. From the food to the conversations to the laughter of children and families, the whole day was a reminder that Christian fellowship is one of God’s good gifts.
Remembering the History of St. Paul and Wolcottsburg
The day also included archives and a St. Paul history overview, giving guests an opportunity to learn more about the congregation’s roots in Wolcottsburg and Clarence Center. Looking through the history of the church helps us remember that we did not arrive here by accident. Many faithful Christians came before us, worshiped here, prayed here, taught their children here, and helped pass the faith down to the next generation. Remembering those who paved the way for us in the faith is not nostalgia alone. It is an act of gratitude. We give thanks for pastors, families, teachers, elders, musicians, servants, and saints whose names may be known to us, and many whose names are known fully only to God.
170 Years of Word and Sacrament Ministry
St. Paul Lutheran Church is grateful to serve Clarence Center, Clarence, East Amherst, Williamsville, Amherst, Lancaster, Lockport, and the greater Buffalo area with a ministry centered in Jesus Christ. Across changing times, the Lord has continued to gather His people through His Word, prayer, Holy Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. The 170 year anniversary celebration reminded us that the Church is sustained not by human strength, but by God’s mercy and faithfulness.
